Music lessons are designed to give children a variety of experiences in listening, playing and composing. We are fortunate to have a designated music room which is well equipped with a range of instruments and which allows children to explore music creatively as a whole classes or in smaller groups. Children are encouraged to develop their skills as practical musicians, so that everyone is participating. Teachers follow the Music Express scheme of work which links closely with the National Curriculum. For details please follow this link.
In Year 4, children learn the rhythms and technics of African drumming, building up to a spectacular performance at the end of the academic year.
Singing is a key part of our daily assemblies and all children are involved in hymn practice each Friday. Class assemblies, concerts and Masses thought out the year also give the children in all year groups an opportunity to share their musical gifts and talents.
In the Summer term the school choir prepare for the Elmbridge Music Festival where the children have an opportunity to perform and play their instruments to a larger audience. Many children also have instrumental lessons in school, including keyboard, violin, record, flute and guitar.
